MDR: Superior Solutions for Testing and Inspection

MDR Certification Engineering (MDR) has two decades of experience in quality assurance, inspection and preventative maintenance. Managing Director Gary Holder established the business in 2001 after many years’ experience working for different companies in inspection and quality control. Noticing a gap in the market, Gary decided to strike out on his own and hired a team of quality assurance Inspectors and engineers.

MDR commenced their business in Australia servicing the oil and gas sector. As MDR’s capability and business grew, they expanded into the mining market. The versatility to explore new markets has become a trademark of MDR, thanks to their size, flexibility and diverse skillsets of their personnel. Proudly Western Australian owned and located within the Australian Marine Complex in Henderson, MDR’s head office is fully equipped with the latest technology. Using highly trained specialists and the latest inspection and testing techniques, MDR has developed a world-class business servicing the construction, fabrication, mining, and oil and gas industries. MDR services the Australian and international market and have offices in Victoria and Papua New Guinea.

MDR’s niche is in solving complex inspection and testing requirements as well as providing project plans that will increase efficiency and save money across the life of the project. Clients feel confident in bringing the most challenging inspection and testing requirements to the MDR team to achieve effective solutions. MDR engineers will work with clients, using new technology, new testing and inspection techniques, and inventing or adapting technologies to deliver exceptional results. The MDR engineering team will also create project plans that allow efficient inspection, testing and rectification to occur, thus saving time and money.

Providing a superior solution that is economical for the customer is the goal of the MDR team. Whilst much of MDR’s work is carried out across client’s sites, MDR’s on-site fully equipped technical workshop provides the in-house capability to build, adapt and invent solutions to meet each client’s needs. A core capability at MDR is having the right technology for the job at hand. Specialised equipment used by MDR includes 3D floor scanners, 3D laser scanners, drones for aerial inspections, phased array, ultrasonic corrosion mapping and ultrasonic C-scan imaging.

Originally providing inspection and testing, MDR has followed market demands, moving into fabrication, engineering, non-destructive testing, inspection and supervision. Through innovation and technology, MDR’s vision for the future involves developing autonomous and non-intrusive inspections capability, preventing the need to shut down plant or equipment for inspections or testing. Remotely operated inspection technology receives information from autonomous data collecting robots. Data can then be analysed and recommendations can be made on rectification methods.

MDR’s many points of difference serve them well in the current environment. As a privately owned company they are flexible and agile, able to move quickly to take advantage of the latest technologies and changes within the market. This enables MDR to respond quickly to client requirements and provide unique solutions to service clients’ needs.

Project management capability of the MDR team creates significant cost savings for their clients. MDR can assess the client’s needs and provide a solution to service the requirements of an entire project. By dealing with one trusted company from beginning to end, clients are able to streamline their operations, confident that all work will be carried out to their exact requirements.

Preventative maintenance and risk management are essential factors for a successful project. MDR have the capability to perform rectification work and preventative maintenance, which extends the lifespan on assets, minimising downtime and ensuring the all-important safety of operators.

Gary says he has always had an interest in the defence industry. Gary worked on the Collins class submarines when they were being built at the ASC complex in Adelaide, and MDR has worked on various vessels at Garden Island facility in Western Australia. Gary believes that MDR has the technology and skilled personnel necessary to provide testing, inspection and quality assurance for Australian defence on frigates and submarines. In particular, MDR are highly specialised in pressure vessel Inspection and testing, which requires similar testing and inspection techniques to frigates and submarines. MDR are positioning themselves to become a contractor of choice in Australia’s expanding defence sector.

The team at MDR are always looking towards the future, monitoring upcoming technological advances and continually updating their training to keep abreast of the latest industry standards. They are able to compete with larger competitors by remaining at the cutting edge of the latest testing technology and by having internationally recognised qualifications. To provide the highest quality service to their customers, MDR pursues accreditation in a number of industries including ISO, NATA, DNV-GL and CASA.

MDR is active in their local community, supporting charities such as Legacy, Make-A-Wish Foundation, homeless charities and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Whatever your testing, inspection or quality assurance requirements are, MDR is highly specialised at tailoring inspection solutions specifically designed to solve your inspection needs.
